THE KNOWLEDGE LIBRARY / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Find a clearer next step.

A small framework for the moment when everything feels equally urgent.

Draft editorial · Website concept

1. Name the decision.

Write one sentence beginning with “I need to decide…” If it contains several decisions, separate them. A tangled question often becomes easier when each part has a name.

2. Separate facts from assumptions.

Make two short lists: what you know and what you are assuming. Choose the assumption that would change your decision most if it turned out to be wrong.

3. Find the smallest useful move.

Could one conversation, a rough draft or a small experiment answer the important question? Choose an action that produces useful information without committing you further than necessary.

4. Give yourself a return point.

Decide when you will look again and what you hope to know by then. The next step is more useful when it leads back to a deliberate decision.
