The unfinished list.

An imagined moment about choosing what deserves the evening.

Draft editorial · Website concept

At six fifteen, Mara drew a line under the last item on her list. There were still seven things above it. She added an eighth: finish the list.

Her phone lit up. A photograph from her brother: two crooked bowls, a bag of flour, and the message, “We may have misunderstood the recipe.”

She laughed, then looked back at the page. One email really did need an answer. The slides could wait until morning. The rest had acquired urgency mostly by sitting there.

She answered the email. Beside the slides, she wrote the first sentence she wanted to say. It was enough to give tomorrow somewhere to begin.

At six twenty-eight, she closed the notebook and called her brother.

“Show me the bowls,” she said.

The list stayed unfinished. The evening did not.
